The Struggle

Farmer's daughter weds carnival wrestler. They met at the onset of the Great Depression, a terrible time to begin a new life, but anyone who has ever been in love knows that even the most difficult issues seem trivial when hearts are throbbing.

The year was 1930, the date of their first date lost in antiquity. Depressed financiers plummeted to suicidal deaths, while Lilly and Joe were celebrating new love, wise young people turned fools over love. What a fool believes, no wise man has the power to reason away. Born in primitive surroundings, I often returned to the home farm, wherever it might be. Upon returning to the farm on college break, I sought my true identity, the roots of who I am.
